Women Coffee Growers and Resilient Communities

Participated in the Women in Coffee Summit in Mexico, where they built their capacity, broadened their understanding of the coffee value chain, and strengthened networks for international learning and exchange.
In the municipality of Tolima, we have been working alongside 50 women coffee farmers to strengthen their leadership, expand their opportunities, and continue building more resilient communities.
In 2024, thanks to a project funded by Root Capital, the Apuna Foundation conducted a participatory assessment in Tolima’s coffee-growing communities to identify gaps in gender equity and inclusion, and to develop training programs aimed at strengthening women’s leadership and participation in their organizations. To complement this process, and in partnership with Bean Voyage, in 2025, we supported associations such as Amucaflome and Café Agrario as part of the Resilient Communities Initiative, promoting training opportunities in gender equity, conflict resolution, entrepreneurship, and food security.
As part of the process with Bean Voyage, 14 women coffee farmers had the opportunity to participate in the Women in Coffee Summit in Mexico, where they strengthened their skills, broadened their understanding of the coffee value chain, and consolidated networks for international learning and exchange.
In 2025, in addition to the training programs for the 50 women coffee farmers, the two associations strengthened their productive infrastructure by installing and equipping collection points, funded by seed capital provided by Bean Voyage. The process culminated in follow-up sessions, an evaluation, and a closing ceremony, consolidating the participants’ roles as leaders within their communities. This initiative has helped strengthen the social fabric, promote equity, and generate new economic opportunities for women coffee farmers in the region.
