With the goal of reducing firewood consumption on farms
Since 2023, the Apuna Foundation, in partnership with the Tolima Regional Autonomous Corporation and Siruma Coffee, has been implementing a project aimed at improving the living conditions of coffee-growing families through the installation of eco-efficient stoves on coffee farms. This initiative seeks to strengthen the capacities of rural communities, promote more sustainable practices, and contribute to the economic and social development of coffee-growing regions.
Thanks to this partnership, 31 families from the Café Agrario Association have benefited from the installation of eco-efficient stoves in their homes. The families were selected following a field assessment process that identified the condition of existing stoves and prioritized those farms where deteriorating conditions posed the greatest risks to the families’ health and well-being.

The implementation of these technologies aims to reduce firewood consumption on farms by 60%, thereby helping to ease pressure on forests, mitigate deforestation, and reduce carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions. In this way, the project not only improves the quality of life for coffee-growing families but also promotes more sustainable and environmentally responsible coffee production.
